DUNCANVILLE — Security has been stepped up at Duncanville High School after officials confiscated two guns in a matter of days — one of which was loaded.

Officials said the start of the school Wednesdsay day was relatively normal.

There is no sign of the two students caught carrying handguns in their backpacks. They have been suspended and will not return for the remainder of the school year.

For the next two weeks during school hours, as a deterrent, students can expect to see extra security on hand. Most will come from law enforcers from Dallas County.

School administrators will be conducting random searches to make sure students get the message: No weapons, including guns, are allowed on school grounds.

“We would randomly select a classroom and administrators would explain to students as they enter the room what would be occurring and then the class of students would be individually searched, all their belongings, purses and backpacks,” said Tammy Kuykendall from Duncanville ISD.

Police are crediting their Crime Stoppers hotline program and the two anonymous tips they received for helping them confiscate the two handguns. The weapon found last Friday was loaded. The one found on Tuesday was not loaded. Police do not believe the two incidents are related.
