DENTON COUNTY — Lake Cities firefighters took their concerns to the streets on Saturday.

They went door-to-door passing out information about a plan that could cost almost half of them their jobs.

The fire department currently serves Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Corinth and Shady Shores. But now both Lake Dallas and Hickory Creek are considering creating their own fire departments.

Lake Cities Fire Department spokesman Clint Ferguson said the new plan puts one fire engine and one ambulance in Hickory Creek.

"On the outfront, you know if you only have one call at a time, you are okay," Ferguson said. "If you happen to be the second person who needs a call in that city at that time, you are gonna be waiting for response."

The Lake Dallas City Council has not yet voted on what it will do. The Hickory Creek City Council is holding a special session on Sunday, where it may vote on the issue.

The Lake Cities department also serves two other communities on the shore of Lewisville Lake, Corinth and Shady Shores.
