DALLAS –– Dallas police are investigating a reported rape at Thomas Edison Middle School along Singleton Boulevard.
A young girl told police she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint in a school bathroom Monday afternoon as she left an after school program. She ran across the street to a daycare center for help.
"She was shaking. She was like shaking. I just started crying," said Michelle Brown, owner of the daycare center where the girl ran for help. "Her pants were ripped. She was really distraught. She was really, really crying."
Authorities have released few details about it, but it apparently happened during an after school program. A district spokesperson said Dallas police are investigating and that extra security is on campus following the reported attack.
A letter will be sent home to parents, but Tuesday morning many said they had already heard about the investigation. Police have not released a description of the attacker, nor have they revealed whether the victim knew the individual.
Dallas Police Department spokesman Demarquis Black emailed the statement below:
"There has been many request (sic) from media regarding the incident that occurred April 29, 2013 at 2940 Singleton Boulevard at Thomas Edison Middle School. Dallas Police Investigators are aware of this incident and are currently looking into it. Please be patient and we will update you if possible."
Crisis counselors are on campus for students and staff.
