FORT WORTH — The burning and branding of a TCU student from one of the most prominent families in Fort Worth continues to make headlines.
News 8 first showed you the shocking images on Tuesday night: Severe burns that cover half of Amon Carter IV's backside.
It happened about two weeks ago in Breckenridge, Colorado, where a large number of fraternity and sorority members had rented a home.
The TCU Interfraternity Council is the governing body that oversees Greek life at the university. They referred all questions to campus administrators, who issued this statement:
"TCU began an investigation after the family informed us of this incident. University policy prohibits harming another student, which would obviously include branding. It's too early to tell if this incident was related to a student-sponsored activity, but the health and safety of our students is of utmost importance to TCU."
Amon "Chance" Carter IV is a TCU sophomore and member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his backside.
While Carter's family have said they are demanding accountability, they have yet to file a police report in Colorado.
Carter's family says the "branding" of Chance was performed against his will at a gathering of Kappa Sigma and Delta Delta Delta members in Breckenridge that was not sanctioned by the school.
Although the alleged incident happened more than two weeks ago, Breckenridge police didn't learn about it until Wednesday.
"One of our lead investigators is trying to contact the family member and possibly even the attorney for the family," said Kim Green, a spokeswoman for the Breckenridge Police Department. "At this point, we can't prove that a crime has been committed, therefore there's no one to charge for that crime."
News 8 attempted on Wednesday to contact the alleged perpetrator of the branding incident, but calls to him and family members were not answered.
