DALLAS - Six names were listed as finalists for Dallas police chief in a city council memo released by City Manager Mary Suhm.
Among those finalists were Art Acevedo, the chief of police in Austin and president of The National Latino Peace Officers Association. Three internal candidates were also listed as final candidates.
In addition to Acevedo, finalists include: David O. Brown, the first assistant chief for the Dallas Police Department; Robert L. Davis, the chief of police in San Jose, California; Daniel V. Garcia, assistant chief for the Dallas Police Department; Floyd D. Simpson, assistant chief for the Dallas Police Department; Robert Crump White, police chief for the Louisville Metro Police Department in Kentucky.
In November of 2009, Chief David Kunkle announced he will retire after nearly 38 years on the city's payroll.
