AUSTIN -- KVUE News has learned Richard Lee Hooks, an employee of the Texas Department of Public Safety, has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
According to the DPS website, 57-year-old Hooks is the Texas Division of Emergency Management Region 7 Capital Area Coordinator.
Jail records show Hooks was booked into the Travis County Jail just after 2:20 a.m. Thursday. Law enforcement says he was arrested in the 1000 block of Old Bastrop Highway.
The DPS website says Hooks worked for the Corpus Christi Fire Department for 29 years before joining the TDEM staff.
It also says "Hooks directed the responses to numerous incidents and emergencies, including the Hurricane Katrina shelter project. He implemented Corpus Christi’s first evacuation program for Hurricane Rita and directed the city’s first re-population team during Hurricane Ike."
