McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A former federal agent accused of sexually assaulting a girl was employed by the U.S. Border Patrol during a portion of the six years of alleged abuse.
The Border Patrol said Tuesday 33-year-old Jaime Ocanas worked for the agency between June 2001 and June 2007.
Ocanas, who most recently worked for the McAllen Independent School District police force, is charged with continuous sexual assault of a minor. The alleged victim told Pharr police that the abuse occurred for about six years starting in 1998, when Ocanas was 19.
Ocanas had been assigned to the Border Patrol's Rio Grande City station and resigned in 2007. He began working for the school district in December 2007. He was fired last month amid the sexual assault investigation.
Ocanas declined comment Monday.
