SAN ANTONIO — Police say a document was reported missing from the Alamo on Thursday morning.
The alleged theft was reported to San Antonio police around 9:55 a.m.
Police Chief William McManus said workers were taking inventory when they noticed a copy of the Texas Declaration of Independence did not appear to be the original copy.
The document in question is one of 13 original copies produced in the 1920s and distributed throughout the state.
The document was contained inside a book in a room connected to Alamo Hall.
An expert has been called to verify whether or not the document was actually stolen and replaced with another copy.
San Antonio Park Police and Alamo Guards were patrolling the grounds on Thursday.
