Amazon hiring 120,000 seasonal employees is gearing up for the holidays. And in a very big way.

The online retail giant announced Thursday that it plans to add 120,000 seasonal workers this holiday season. The jobs will be all across the U.S, including Texas, with the company looking to bolster its fulfillment centers, sortation centers and customer service sites in advance of the yearly shopping madness.

North Texas is home to four of the state’s six fulfillment centers. They are in Coppell, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Haslet. In April, WFAA's Good Morning Texas took a behind the scenes tour of the facility in Coppell.

Last year the company added 100,000 holiday workers, of which over 14,000 became full-time employees, a number the company expects to grow this year. Those interested can learn more and apply online here.

In a note sent out in September, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimated that 44% of the U.S. population now lives near an Amazon warehouse or delivery station. The company is hiring workers across 27 states as part of its latest holiday push.

Amazon is just the latest major retailer to announce its looking for help this holiday season. Last month Target announced that it was planning to add 70,000 holiday workers for its stores as well as 7,500 workers for its distribution and fulfillment facilities to help prepare for the holidays. Macy's similarly announced last month that it hopes to add 83,000 seasonal workers of its own for the holidays.

FedEx meanwhile said during its most recent earnings announcement that it expects to add more than 50,000 employees to better handle its busy season between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The large seasonal hiring comes amid hopes of a strong holiday season for the retail market. Last week the National Retail Federation predicted Tuesday that sales will rise to $655.8 million in November and December, a 3.6% increase overall.
