Dallas elementary teacher wins Project Green Eco-Educator Award

Our K-5th grade Category winner goes to Candice Blount-Lindsay of Anson Jones Elementary in Dallas!

This week we're announcing WFAA's Project Green Eco-Educator winners! These are teachers in the community who exemplify leadership, creativity, and execution of projects educating students about protecting and improving the environment.

Our K-5th grade category winner goes to Candice Blount-Lindsay of Anson Jones Elementary in Dallas!

Ms. Blount-Lindsay is helping her students understand the impacts of plastics on our environment. It is important for each student to understand their own contributions to see what a growing problem it is!

She encouraged her students to share their message through art made from the plastic they collected on campus.

"I wanted the students to connect with their use of plastic and the effects it has on the environment within their own ecology," she said. "Since ecology means 'home,' this is a part of their home."

You can see their progress at this link. The students are also sharing their art work at the North Oak Cliff Library!

As one of this year’s Eco-Educators, Ms. Blount-Lindsay received $1,000 donated by WFAA Project Green and K. Hovnanian Homes to keep her project going!

Congratulations Candice Blount-Lindsay!
