Dashcam of Randy Travis' Grayson County arrest released

A federal judge denied a request by country singer Randy Travis to stop the state of Texas from releasing footage of him naked and ranting during a 2012 DWI arrest.

Texas DPS has released dashcam video from Randy Travis' 2012 DWI arrest. A federal judge denied a request by country singer Randy Travis to stop the state of Texas from releasing the footage on Nov. 30.

Travis eventually pled guilty and received two years probation and had to pay a $2,000 fine.

A judge ordered the surveillance video be released last week. Travis and his legal team released the following statement about the video after a long fight to keep the video private:

Randy’s behavior was extremely altered the evening of his arrest due to the state of his mental health, and substances in his body, causing him to do and say things that were entirely out of character. He suffered a severe concussion and sustained numerous other injuries from the crash.

Notwithstanding the release of the tape, Randy and his team will have their day in court regarding the ongoing lawsuit against the State of Texas in relation to the violation of his civil rights.

Randy Travis is well-known to be a loving, caring person who is respectful of everyone, a video that shows anything otherwise only underscores that he was absolutely not himself. Randy is deeply apologetic for his actions that evening. A man of integrity with a good heart, Randy does not and will never condone these types of actions that distort the true beliefs of Randy Travis and his entire family.

The arrest made headlines in 2012 because he was naked when he was taken into custody. Newly released video shows the accident scene where Travis was involved in a one car crash and the drive to the station.

Authorities told WFAA he threatened troopers during the investigation. The video released shows Randy Travis acting belligerent toward the troopers involved in the investigation.

Since his arrest in 2012, Travis has been recovering from a life-threatening stroke he suffered in July 2013.
