About Lena Pope Home
The Lena Pope Home believes in two things. The first is that each child can achieve great things when they have family support and a strong early education foundation and secondly, that each child deserves a second chance with early intervention to students who are experiencing problems in school. Lena Pope Home has teamed up with Chapel Hill Academy Charter School and partnered with Fort Worth ISD to help prevent and mitigate the struggles in school children face. Bridging the two, they offer a broad range of counseling, therapy and parent services through Family Matters counseling programs. Programs for the Lena Pope Home implement evidence-based, research tested techniques with the children and families to make sure the community gets what they need most in programs, results.
Chapel Hill Academy
In September 2007, Lena Pope Home received one of three new charters awarded to the state of Texas, by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This charter enabled Lena Pope Home to open a public charter school, Chapel Hill Academy (CHA), on August 25, 2008. The vision of Chapel Hill Academy is to intervene early in a child’s life and prepare that child for a successful future. The goal of the school is to provide a positive learning environment that inspires critical thinking and nurtures a respect for self and others..
Chapel Hill Academy provides a structured and innovative environment for the educational, emotional, and physical development of children. Since pedagogy, in its essence, means the art of teaching, Chapel Hill Academy's teachers utilize innovative methods to engage and maintain students' interest in learning. Low student to staff ratios assist Chapel Hill Academy in providing a strong, supportive environment for our students.
For eighty years, Lena Pope Home has been providing services to youth. Through these experiences, Lena Pope Home has learned that when children have a foundation of academic and education excellence they can reach their potential and experience success. On any given day, Lena Pope Home staff work with approximately 2,000 students across Tarrant County and provide services that will encourage students socially and academically. What LPH has discovered through this work is that if they start working earlier with children in a strong educational setting, it helps inspire them to pursue learning opportunities in all aspects of their lives.
An additional benefit of Chapel Hill Academy' students is equity in educational achievement. CHA's focus is literacy, one of the key building blocks to a lifetime of learning. Academic technology components are currently being integrated in interactive academic classroom settings. Engaging students in all parts of their education will increase and maintain their interest while learning and being equipped with vital tools, skills, and strategies.
In conclusion, the educational philosophy of Chapel Hill Academy is centered on addressing the needs of children and their families. The school is built upon a child-centered curriculum that focuses on the stages of development, fosters individual interest, values diversity, while factoring in the social nature of learning. Parents have a choice when it comes to meeting their children’s education needs; Lena Pope Home and Chapel Hill Academy can provide the necessary tools needed to ensure a strong, well balanced academic and social foundation.
Lena Pope Home, Inc. offers an alternative school in collaboration with the Tarrant County Juvenile Services for students who are experiencing problems in a traditional classroom setting.
