FORT WORTH —Legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke will head an all-star lineup at the eighth annual Jazz By the Boulevard festival. The two day event will take place Sept. 10-11, 2010 on the tree-lined lawn of the Will Rogers Memorial Center (3401 West Lancaster) in the heart of Fort Worth’s nationally-celebrated Cultural District.
Clarke, a celebrated bassist, has performed with Gil Evan, Horace Silver, Dexter Gordon and Art Blakey before hitting the big time with Return To Forever, the fusion-jazz quartet he founded with keyboardist Chick Corea. His latest album is The Stanley Clarke Band on the Heads/Up Concord label.
The complete Jazz By the Boulevard lineup will be announced in mid-July, said Marsha Milam, the festival’s producer.
Tickets will be $5 each day for general admission. The popular Reserved Table Seating and VIP seating will be available for both single and 2 day passes
through Front Gate tickets (www.frontgatetickets.com or 800-512-SHOW). Tickets will go on sale July 17.
2010 will mark the eighth year of the festival, which celebrates Fort Worth’s rich legacy of jazz, R&B and blues musical traditions. Last year’s headliners included funk pioneer George Clinton and Funkadelic, gospel legends The Blind Boys of Alabama and Grammy-winning bluesman Buddy Guy.
Proceeds from the show will raise funds to restore and beautify Camp Bowie, the city’s oldest boulevard.
As in the past, Jazz By the Boulevard will feature non-stop music in a family-friendly atmosphere, and will also feature kid-specific, hands-on activities, as well as celebrity chef cooking demos.
This year’s event will be produced by Marsha Milam Music. An Austin-based producer of live music events in Texas cities from El Paso to Fort Worth.
