Top 8 things to do for National Video Games Day 2016

Monday, September 12th is National Video Games Day. We have some suggestions on how to celebrate in North Texas.

1. Go test-drive a virtual reality headset; see the future of gaming

Select Best Buy, GameStop and Microsoft stores are demonstrating the HTC VIVE, the Oculus Rift and the PlayStation VR devices. The experience is amazing and, we swear, these are the future of entertainment. Call ahead to ensure the demo availability.

2. Download the 'Forza Horizon 3' Demo on Xbox One

Arguably the best racing series on the Xbox One gets a new demo on National Video Game Day. This is the more casual version of the 'Forza' games; and promises an on-road / off-road tour of Australia... with exotic cars.

3. Download tomorrow's new game releases at 11:00 p.m.

That time-zone loophole means Central Time Zone gamers get to download new stuff an hour early!

'Bioshock: The Collection' for PS4, Xbox One, PC
'Dead Rising Triple Pack' for PS4, Xbox One, PC
'Pac-Man Championship Edition 2' for PS4, Xbox One, PC
'Pro Evolution Soccer 2017' for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3, Xbox 360
'ReCore' for Xbox One and PC

4. Play the best game you've never heard of: 'Inside'

Available for the PS4 and Xbox One, 'Inside' is a stunning little independent game that is easily one of the weirdest and most though-provoking titles of the year. It's dark, disturbing and wickedly funny.

5. Start working on your game-themed cosplay for upcoming North Texas cons

Dallas Fan Days is October 14-16. Get your 'Overwatch' meets 'Uncharted' costume ready! More Info

6. Start reading 'Ready Player One'

Steven Spielberg's next potential big hit movie is based on this Earnest Cline novel. It's virtual reality meets 1980s pop-culture in one of the greatest video game sagas ever created. And, you don't have to like video games to enjoy it. Just brush up on your John Hughes and 'Full House' references.

7. Get out and catch some Pokemon

If you've given up on the craze or haven't yet started, tonight's a good night to get out and catch some new Pokemon. Heads-up: the North Texas forecast says it might be too wet later in the week. Download the 'Pokemon Go' app on iPhone and Android: more info.

8. Go to Free Play Arcade and relive your childhood
