John Pronk was born in 1951 in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La.

John began work as a newsfilm cameraperson/reporter at KPCC-TV in Lake Charles in 1978. He joined WFAA-TV in 1981 as a reporter/photographer.

John produces the "Texas Tales" feature segment for WFAA-TV's 5 p.m. newscast and also shoots and reports breaking news.

John is the winner of numerous awards, including a Heartland Emmy Award, six Dallas Press Club Katie Awards for feature reporting and videotape editing and seven Associated Press and UPI Texas State Broadcast Awards.

John has three children and one granddaughter.
