Houston ended a 10-game losing streak against the A's this season and a six-game skid overall. The Astros trailed 4-2 entering the ninth before Matt Dominguez hit a two-run homer off Grant Balfour to tie it.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The New York Yankees rallied against All-Star closer Joe Nathan in the ninth inning last night for a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers. Nathan has converted 15 consecutive save chances, and 31 of 32 this season. Mariano Rivera struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 32nd save this season.
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer is having surgery on his left knee and could miss the rest of training camp. The Cowboys "don't think it's a very severe thing" and put the recovery time at two to four weeks. Spencer hyperextended the knee in offseason workouts and aggravated the injury before training camp.
DALLAS (AP) — The Mavericks have signed free agent shooting guard Monta (MAHN'-tay) Ellis. The signing finishes the final piece of their new starting lineup. Ellis will start alongside Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert, Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion.
