NEW YORK (AP) — A second straight championship for the Miami Heat has produced a second-best NBA Finals rating for ABC. The Heat's Game 7 win against the San Antonio Spurs were watched by around 26.3 million. The only game to draw more since the network took over the series in 2003 was a Los Angeles Lakers-Boston Celtics game 7 in 2010.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Texas Rangers have won the first game of a series against their 2011 World Series foe, the St. Louis Cardinals. Nelson Cruz snapped a tie with a two-run ninth inning single with the infield in. The Rangers beat St. Louis 6-5. Derek Holland started shaky but ended strong.
CHICAGO (AP) — Anthony Rizzo's homer drought lasted a month, but not much more. He hit his first home run since May 18 to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 3-1 win over the now-American League Houston Astros. Matt Garza pitched into the ninth inning for Chicago, but Chris Carter's ninth-inning homer cost him the shutout.
IRVING, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys now have signed all but one of their draft picks. Yesterday they announced a deal with tight end Gavin Escobar, their second-round pick. Only Wisconsin center Travis Frederick, selected 31st overall, remains unsigned. Escobar had 122 catches and 17 touchdowns in 39 career games for San Diego State.
