Nuggets top Lakers...Hawks win again
UNDATED (AP) — Wilson Chandler was a nice alternative to Danilo Gallinari while the Denver Nuggets tried to extend their home winning streak to nine games.
Chandler hit three three-pointers and finished with a team-high 23 points as the Nuggets downed the Los Angeles Lakers 119-108. Chandler started in place of Gallinari, who was a late scratch because of a bruised left thigh.
Ty Lawson added 22 points, had eight assists and helped the Nuggets outscore the Lakers 33-3 in fast-break points.
Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 29 points, and Dwight Howard added 15 points and 14 boards but missed 11 of his last 12 free throws.
L.A. ended a four-game winning streak.
Al Horford scored 23 points and grabbed 22 rebounds as Atlanta whipped Detroit 114-103. Josh Smith also had 23 points for the Hawks, who led by 26 in the third quarter before winning for the fifth time in six games.
Paul Pierce poured in 26 points and Boston finished 3-2 on its five-game road trip by downing Utah 110-107 in overtime. Pierce scored seven straight in OT. Avery Bradley had 18 points for the Celtics, who blew an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter and overcame Gordon Hayward's 26 points.
Bradley Beal scored 20 points and Emeka Okafor (eh-MEK'-uh OH'-kah-fohr) grabbed 13 rebounds in Washington's third-straight win, 90-84 at Toronto. The Raptors lost for only the second time in eight games despite DeMar DeRozan's 25 points.
NBA-THUNDER-FISHER
Thunder bring back Fisher
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed veteran Derek Fisher, filling an opening for a third point guard that was created when Eric Maynor got traded to Portland.
Fisher joins Oklahoma City for the stretch run for the second straight season. He played in 20 regular-season games and then all 20 playoff games last season. He has not played in the NBA this season after being unsigned as a free agent during the offseason.
TOP-25 MEN'S BASKETBALL-SCHEDULE
Gardner leads Golden Eagles
UNDATED (AP) — Sixth-ranked Kansas barely managed to keep its share of the Big 12 lead by rallying from a five-point deficit in the final minute of regulation.
Elijah Johnson scored 12 of his career-high 39 points in overtime as the Jayhawks beat Iowa State 108-96. Johnson made two free throws with 4.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 90-all.
Travis Releford added 19 points for the Jayhawks (24-4, 12-3 Big 12), who snapped Iowa State's 22-game home winning streak and kept pace with No. 13 Kansas State atop the Big 12.
Kansas State has 12 conference wins for the first time in 40 years after Thomas Gipson scored 20 points and Angel Rodriguez added 16 to lead the Wildcats to a 75-55 win over Texas Tech. The Wildcats did not take control until the second half, when reserve Nino Williams jump-started the Kansas State offense with 11 straight points as part of a 24-6 run.
Marquette has bolstered its chances for a No. 1 seed in the Big East tournament by defeating Syracuse.
Davante Gardner scored a career-high 26 points and the 22nd-ranked Golden Eagles improved to 11-4 in the conference with a 74-71 win over the 12th-ranked Orange. Gardner shot 7-for-7 from the field and 12-for-13 from the line to help Marquette pull within one game of Georgetown for first place in the Big East.
C.J. Fair had 20 points for Syracuse (22-6, 10-5), which has lost three of five to drop into a tie for fourth with No. 21 Notre Dame.
T25-MEN'S POLL
Hoosiers roll on
UNDATED (AP) — Indiana is one vote shy of being a unanimous No. 1 in the men's AP college basketball poll. The Hoosiers are occupying the top spot for a fourth straight week and tenth time this season.
Gonzaga got the other No. 1 vote and moves up a notch to replace Miami at No. 2 while Duke and Michigan jump three places to third and fourth. Miami falls to No. 5 following a weekend loss to unranked Wake Forest.
Kansas moves up three spots to sixth while Georgetown leapfrogs from 11 to seven. Florida drops from five to eight, Michigan State tumbles from fourth to ninth after back-to-back losses and Louisville remains at No. 10.
Saint Louis jumps into the poll at No. 18. And Louisiana Tech moves in at No. 25. It's the Bulldogs' first appearance since a 13-week run during the 1984-85 season and just their second overall.

UNDATED (AP) — Baylor remains No. 1 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll for an eighth straight week. The Lady Bears received all 40 first-place votes for the first time since returning to the top spot.
The first seven stayed unchanged with Notre Dame, UConn, Stanford, Duke, California and Penn State following Baylor.
NHL-SCHEDULE
Hawks extend streak...Habs take over conference lead despite loss
UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks have stretched their NHL-record season-opening point streak to 19 games with a comeback win against the visiting Edmonton Oilers.
Marian Hossa (HOH'-sah) scored 1:44 into overtime as the Hawks beat the Oilers 3-2 for their sixth straight win and ninth in 10 games. Edmonton led twice in the game, but Viktor Stalberg's goal early in the third period sent the game into OT.
Ray Emery made 17 saves to help the Blackhawks improve to 16-0-3.
Chicago now tops the Western Conference by eight points over Anaheim after the Ducks absorbed a 5-2 loss at Los Angeles. Slava Voynov snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third period after the Kings rallied twice from one-goal deficits.
The Ducks ended a six-game winning streak, while goaltender Niclas Fasth (fahst) lost for the first time in nine decisions this season.
Also on ice, Ben Bishop made 44 saves before turning back four more in a shootout as Ottawa nipped Montreal 2-1. Peter Regin (REE'-gihn) ended the game by scoring on the Senators' fifth shootout attempt, allowing Ottawa to pull within one point of the Eastern Conference-leading Canadiens.
Nikolai Kulemin (KOO'-leh-mihn) had a goal and an assist as Toronto beat Philadelphia 4-2 to improve to 8-4 on the road. Ben Scrivens stopped 23 shots and helped the Maple Leafs weather a double-minor to former Flyer James van Riemsdyk (REEMZ'-dyk) in the third period.
Nashville beat Dallas 5-4 on Roman Josi's (YOH'-seez) goal at 28 seconds of overtime. Josi had two goals and two assists for the Predators, who trailed 4-2 in the second period before halting a two-game skid.

Brodeur mending...Clowe banished...Caps looking ahead
UNDATED (AP) — The New Jersey Devils say goaltender Martin Brodeur (broh-DOOR') is listed as day to day after tests were performed on his sore back today.
The 40-year-old Brodeur has missed the past two games for the Devils while dealing with a tweak that he's been feeling for a few weeks. Brodeur last played last Thursday, finishing with 17 saves in New Jersey's 3-2 win at Washington.
In other NHL news, San Jose Sharks forward Ryan Clowe (kloh) has been suspended two games without pay by the league for instigating a fight late in Friday night's 2-1 loss to Chicago. Clowe was assessed a minor penalty for roughing and a game misconduct for leaving the bench on an illegal line change to start a fight with Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw with 8.4 seconds left in regulation. The infraction normally calls for a 10-game suspension, but the line change was deemed legal upon video review.
And the struggling Washington Capitals have re-signed goaltender Braden Holtby and defenseman John Erskine to two-year deals.
NFL-BRADY CONTRACT
Pats give Brady contract extension
UNDATED (AP) — The New England Patriots have a lot more cap room, thanks to their starting quarterback.
A person familiar with the contract tells The Associated Press that Tom Brady has received a three-year extension from the Patriots worth about $27 million. The new deal clears nearly $15 million from New England's salary cap.
The 35-year-old two-time league MVP was signed through 2014, and has said he wants to play five more years. The three-time Super Bowl champion will make far less in those three seasons than the going rate for star quarterbacks. Brady currently has a four-year, $72 million deal with $48 million guaranteed.

Te'o slow at combine
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Linebacker Manti Te'o's (MAN'-ty TAY'-ohz) first appearance on a football field since the BCS championship game didn't go as well as planned.
The Notre Dame star and Heisman Trophy runner-up was clocked at 4.82 seconds in the 40-yard dash. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock had said Sunday anything faster than 4.7 would be "phenomenal." Anything 4.8 or over would be a "concern."
The workout comes more than a month after Te'o's highly-publicized online romance with a girlfriend was exposed as a hoax and that Te'o was a victim of the hoax.

Top prospect getting checked out
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei (loh-too-leh-LAY') is heading home from the NFL's combine after doctors discovered he had a heart condition.
Lotulelei is one of the top prospects in April's draft. Some mock drafts have the Utah star going No. 1 overall. He is expected to undergo more extensive heart tests when he gets back to Utah.
NFL-EAGLES-JENKINS CUT
Eagles say goodbye to Jenkins, Patterson
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran defensive tackles Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson.
Jenkins signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Eagles in 2011 and started every game the last two seasons. He was due to make $5.5 million this season, but rebuilding Philadelphia cut the 32-year-old Jenkins on Monday. After spending the first seven seasons of his NFL career with Green Bay, Jenkins left for Philadelphia. He had 5 1-2 sacks in 2011 and four in 2012.
Patterson was the team's longest-tenured player, spending eight seasons with the Eagles. A first-round draft pick in 2005 out of Southern California, the 29-year-old Patterson played in 115 games with 99 starts.

Jones has new gig
BALTIMORE (AP) — Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones will be a contestant on TV's "Dancing With the Stars." He'll be trying to literally follow in the footsteps of past NFL winners Emmett Smith, Hines Ward and Donald Driver.
Jones is known for his dance moves in the end zone after a touchdown. He scored twice in Baltimore's Super Bowl victory over San Francisco.
MLB-WEINER-DRUG PENALTIES
More severe penalties for baseball's drug cheaters?
DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Baseball union head Michael Weiner (WEE'-nur) says there's active discussion about increasing the penalties for violating baseball's drug testing program.
Weiner says players have expressed interest in making the sanctions for failed drug tests more severe. He also says there have been discussions with Major League Baseball about possible changes that could take place in 2014.
Under current rules, a player gets a 50-game suspension for a first offense when testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Weiner says players have very little patience for seeing their peers try to cheat the system.
NASCAR-DAYTONA 500-RATINGS
TV ratings up for Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — With Danica Patrick starting from the pole, the Daytona 500's preliminary television ratings are much higher than last year's.
Sunday afternoon's race earned a 10.0 overnight rating and 22 share on Fox. That's up 30 percent from 2012, when rain pushed the event to a Monday night. The network says it's the highest overnight rating since 2006.
Jimmie Johnson won The Great American Race while Patrick was eighth. It's the best finish by a woman at the Daytona 500.
OLYMPICS-PISTORIUS-SHOOTING
Official: Pistorius wants to resume training
JOHANNESBURG (AP) — A government officials says Oscar Pistorius has informed South African authorities that he wants to resume athletic training while on bail for the murder case against him.
A spokeswoman for the Olympic runner, however, denies that he was making immediate plans to return to the track while awaiting trial for the Feb. 14 shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
The double-amputee Paralympian discussed bail terms with his probation officer and a correctional official at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court in the capital, according to correctional officials. The guidelines will determine his daily routine until his next court appearance on June 4.
The timing of any resumption of training was uncertain.
