DALLAS (AP) — Jamie Benn scored a goal and added an assist, and the Dallas Stars' struggling power play connected twice in a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks Saturday night. Jaromir Jagr and Michael Ryder also scored for Dallas, and Cristopher Nilstorp was outstanding in making 31 saves for his first NHL win.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bradley Beal scored 21 points to help the Washington Wizards overcome the Houston Rockets' 3-point barrage for a 105-103 win last night. James Harden scored 27 points and Chandler Parsons had 24 with five of the 19 3-pointers by the Rockets, who had won their first two games after the All-Star break. Houston made 46 three-point attempts, the most in the NBA this season, but still lost in Washington D.C.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Brandon Wood hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Kansas City Royals a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers yesterday. Wood, who hit 43 home runs in the minors in 2005, sent a one-out drive to the back of the left-field bullpen off Jake Brigham, the seventh Rangers pitcher in Surprise, Arizona.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — The Houston Astros overwhelmed Philadelphia's relief pitchers en route to an 8-3 victory yesterday in an exhibition opener. The Astros, making their debut as an American League team and playing for the first time under new manager Bo Porter, scored in six of the final seven innings in Clearwater, Florida.
