PHOENIX (AP) — Dirk Nowitzki missed his second game with a sore right hip, but a crowd of Dallas Mavericks scorers were ready to take his place. Six Mavericks had double-digit point totals — including 20 from O.J. Mayo — in a 109-99 blowout of the Phoenix Suns. It was the Suns' first home loss in four games under interim coach Lindsey Hunter.

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Stars have snapped a four-game losing streak. They won shootout over the Phoenix Coyotes behind shootout goals from Jaromir Jagr and Jamie Benn. Antoine Roussel also scored in his NHL debut. Phoenix had trailed by two goals early but evened it up at 3 in the third period.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas assistant football coach Major Applewhite acknowledges he had his pay frozen for a year and was ordered to undergo counseling after having an inappropriate relationship with a student at the 2009 Fiesta Bowl. In a statement released last night, Applewhite says he was embarrassed. But neither he nor the school released further details. Athletic director DeLoss Dodds says the relationship involved consenting adults.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas owner Jerry Jones insists coach Jason Garrett will have a strong voice in overhauling the coaching staff. He says Garrett will decide who will call the offensive plays next season. Jones indicated recently that Garrett would no longer run the offense on game days, leading to speculation that the coach was being stripped of those duties at the same time his staff was being dismantled.
