MANSFIELD, Texas (AP) — A school official says a 29-year-old Texas high school football coach has died at a hospital.
Mansfield school district spokesman Richie Escovedo said Tuesday the cause of death was pending for Timberview High School offensive coordinator Cody McCarty, who died Sunday after collapsing.
McCarty is a former TCU player and son of Super Bowl winner Mickey McCarty. The elder McCarty, who won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1969, was a heart transplant recipient who had a stroke at age 35. He died of pancreatic cancer last year.
Cody McCarty followed his father at TCU, where he was a tight end from 2000 to 2004. He joined the Timberview coaching staff in 2009.
