DALLAS - It's a tradition that rolls along Greenville Avenue in Dallas every year - the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

But after 33 years, tradition is in trouble.

"This is where it all started from and I would hate to see it go away," Jake Levy said.

Levy and his dad, Jorge, the president of the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association, have been running the event for the past 11 years.

They told us the cost of the parade is $100,000. The money helps pay for portable bathrooms, traffic barricades, trash pick-up and off-duty police officers, security being the biggest expense.

Levy and his father have been able to raise the money, but it's not enough.

"There's probably [a] $40,000 deficit and we need people to come forward," Levy said.

News 8 got in contact with council member Angela Hunt. She said she wants the tradition to continue, but doesn't see the city helping with funds during a budget crisis.

Levy is now making a plea for donations. If he fails to raise the money by Feb. 17, the parade will be canceled.

"Do  little something," Levy said. "If we all band together and do a little something, we can hit that and have this parade, so it doesn't go away."

Anyone interested in helping out can inquire through the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association web site.
