DALLAS - A Dallas police officer 's life was saved by his lapel microphone in a shooting Monday on the 3500 block of Timberglen Road.

"Seeing his microphone, and wear we wear them on our shoulders, he is extremely lucky," said Sr. Cpl. Kevin Janse with the Dallas police. "We're talking a couple of centimeters and this could have been a whole different story."

The bullet ricocheted into the officer, who's name has not been released at this time.

"The bullet did actually shatter his lapel mic and go into his neck," Janse said.

Joshua Busbey was near by when he heard the shots and saw the officer.

"There was police everywhere," Busbey said. "The cop was still laying on the ground. He was bleeding pretty bad. They were trying to stuff him with towels."

Officers were at The Village of Timberglen apartments because a 19-year-old suspect was firing his gun in the air after a fight with his aunt.

After shooting the officer, then teen shot and killed himself.

Police say it was a miracle that saved the officer's life.

It was the second officer-involved shooting Monday in Dallas.
