News 8 has learned that Former Dallas Cowboy Eugene Lockhart is in a hospital being treated for a severe staph infection and he is under armed guard.

Lockhart is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to mortgage fraud last summer. Lockhart was being held at a federal prison in Seagoville when he was taken to the hospital. He has been there since December 30.

Court documents show he is being treated for a septic infection which required surgery.

Lockhart has two armed guards in his room at all times.

He faces up to 10 years in prison for defrauding more than 50 homeowners.

his attorneys are asking that he be placed in home confinement while he awaits sentencing because they say the former linebacker is prone to staph infections.
