This is an old Southern Dessert special. My Mother used to make Chess Pie. Unfortunately, I did not get her recipe but this one (provided very  kindly by a viewer nicknamed “Ladyhawke”) looks very, very close.

Enjoy it.

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 eggs
! Tablespoon cornmeal
1/4 cup evaporated milk
! tablespoon distilled white vinegar
Unbaked pie shell

1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F
2. In a large bowl , mix the butter, sugar, and vanilla. Mix in the eggs, then stir in the cornmeal, evaporated milk, and vinegar until smooth.
3. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 300F. for 40 minutes. Let cool. Serve with whipped cream.
