DAVID HENNEKES, VP, RESIDENTIAL MARKETS, TXU ENERGY
David Hennekes leads the consumer business of TXU Energy, Energy Future Holdings Corp.’s competitive retail business, which serves approximately two million residential customers in Texas. He brings 12 years of diverse energy industry expertise, including nine years in the deregulated Texas electric market, where he has proven results in profit and loss accountabilities as well as in operations management roles. He also has four years of expatriate management experience in both foreign and domestic gas and electric business.
Hennekes was recruited to TXU Energy in 2004 to drive the residential segment’s focus on business growth and superior customer value while competing for residential customers in the highly competitive Texas retail electric market. He has led significant improvements in growth of the residential segment, including two consecutive years of residential market share growth after five years of market share decline.
Prior to joining TXU Energy, Hennekes was employed from 2000 to 2004 by Reliant Energy in Houston, where he led a variety of retail areas and drove operations improvement areas, including managing retail credit risk, collections and remittance processing operations; directing the provider of last resort business; and developing retail financial planning and strategy.
Previously, Hennekes was employed by LG&E Energy in Louisville, Ky., from 1997 to 2000, where he led merger and acquisition projects in the U.S. and Latin America. As a financial director in Argentina from 1997 to 1998, he managed the company’s international investments, including a controlling interest in large regulated gas distribution companies and minority interests in power plants.
Prior to returning to graduate school, Hennekes was a consultant to development organizations in Chile, where he served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer from 1993 to 1996. His projects included teaching business for the Chilean small business administration, leading strategic planning for a worldwide exporter of handicrafts, and conducting a research project sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Previously, he held a series of communications and management roles from 1987 to 1993 while working for trade associations in Washington, D.C., and New York, N.Y. Hennekes received a master’s degree in business administration magna cum laude and a bachelor’s degree with concentrations in accounting and finance from the University of Notre Dame in 1997 and 1987. He is fluent in Spanish and serves on the board of directors of Navidad en el Barrio, a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to giving the gift of Christmas to underprivileged children in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.
