DALLAS MOUSTACHE

Each November begins the annual month-long campaign called Movember, responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces across the globe. Men start with clean-shaven faces, grow moustaches, raise money by seeking out sponsorships for their moustache-growing efforts, and become walking/talking billboards for the 30 days of the month. The campaign raises vital awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. In 2010, over 64,500 U.S. participants raised $7.5 million.

On November 1st, the Dallas-area initiative called Dallas Moustache (www.dallasmoustache.com) begins their support of Movember by encouraging men and women in the area to participate in a uniquely Dallas way. The objective is for Dallas to pool all resources to become the country’s largest single contributor to Movember USA. Dallas “Mo Bros” and their “Sistas” are should register under the Dallas Moustache team at http://us.movember.com.

Dallas Moustache will hold many events throughout Movember, including:

Tuesday, Movember 1   Kickoff Party at Three Sheets
Tuesday, Movember 8   Benefit Lunch at Il Cane Rosso
Thursday, Movember 10 Happy Hour at Dragonfly
Thursday, Movember 17 Happy Hour at Bryan Street Tavern
Friday, Movember 18     Fu Man Chew Benefit Dinner at Snappy Salads
Saturday, Movember 19 Movember Brunch at Cibus
Monday, Movember 21 Dallas Moustache Dallas Stars Night
Wednesday, Movember 30 End-of-Movember Stache Bash at Hotel ZaZa

“Dallas Moustache’s primary objective is to raise awareness and start a dialog around men’s cancer. We have an exciting variety of events planned to celebrate Movember enthusiasts,” said Erik Herskind, Principal at greenlight and a founder of Dallas Moustache. “We aim to have fun, while simultaneously starting the conversation to increase early detection, diagnosis, and effective treatment of cancers, ultimately reducing the number of deaths.”

Why all the moustaches? It’s time men and women understand the facts:

•           1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
•           1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
•           One new case of prostate cancer occurs every 2.7 minutes.
•           One man dies from prostate cancer every 19 minutes.
•           Rates of prostate cancer in men are comparable to rates of breast cancer in women.
•           In 2011, more than 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 33,000 men will die from it.

About Dallas Moustache
The Dallas Moustache mission is to bring Movember, the world’s largest movement for men’s health, to life in a uniquely Dallas way through social events, elevating local camaraderie and raising money and awareness not only during the month of November, but also as an ongoing initiative throughout the year. All money raised goes to Movember USA, benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

About Movember
Movember began in Melbourne, Australia and has grown to become a global movement inspiring over a million people to participate and grow a moustache. “Mo Bros” and women who support them called “Mo Sistas” participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa, and Ireland. All funds raised during Movember support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs to build awareness, education, survivorship, and research of men’s health issues.
