Tips for Meeting the Parents:

Meeting your boyfriend/girlfriend’s parents is a significant event in your relationship. This should not happen too soon. If it does, it may signal that one of you is moving faster than the other. So determine where you are in the relationship, and make sure you are both on the same page before meeting the parents.

When you do-

1.         Do your homework.  Learn some basic facts about your friends’ parents so that you can ask interesting questions and can converse freely.

2.         Bring a gift- flowers, food, etc.   This is your attempt to make a great first impression. Letting your generosity show is a smart move.

3.         Dress to impress. Ensure that you look your best. Run the risk of over-dressing, rather than under- dressing.  You want to look like a good catch.

4.         Keep the public displays of affection (pda)  restricted to private moments. Mom and dad do not need to see  hugs, caresses and kisses. They want to get to know your date.

5.         Prepare yourself for lots of questions.  His/her parents will be curious and will ask questions.  Refrain from giving  anxious, frustrated,  or exasperated answers.
