JUNE NAYLOR/ AUTHOR "The FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO DALLAS & FORT WORTH"

June Naylor's book "The Food Lover's Guide to Dallas & Fort Worth" is available at book stores everywhere.

June's tips for saving money when eating out:

Eat at the bar - often there's a separate menu for the bar and the quality is just as high; this is the case at Del Frisco's, for example.

Make a meal of appetizers - they're generally as interesting as main dishes at half the price, and the trend toward small plates has never been stronger.

Get off the beaten path - out of the way places often are less expensive, such as at ethnic restaurants, where you can eat very well and for less money than in high-traffic areas

Scan the blogs and food sites for special nights- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights are favorites among restaurants for offering half-price menus to pull in volume on slower evenings.

Cooking schools like Central Market and the Culinary School of Fort Worth- as well as the Bastion in Fort Worth and Artisan Baking Co. in Fort Worth, all offer classes that include both instruction and a lot of really good food. Some classes include wine with the courses (there are usually four courses), and the value is sensational.

Eating at the brewery- Deep Ellum Brewery and Rahr & Sons are two of the breweries that offer tours at regular hours each week, usually a weekday and one weekend day. You get your beverages for a flat fee, and there are food trucks there, as well, so it's a party with good food and drink at budget prices.
