It's not Italy, but Irving is celebrating its canals with a Canal Fest this weekend.
The festival is a celebration of different cultures and highlights the city's wonderful water feature.
Canal Fest was a popular event in the 80's and 90's. Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne said a down turn in the economy during the 90's forced the city to make the hard decision and cancel the celebration. Recent growth in the city and the demand to bring back a city celebration prompted the city to act. So, canal Fest was brought back.
Irving Canal Fest will be held on October 19, with events starting at 11 a.m. the event is free to the public.
