Spoken word poets Michael Guinn and Mantreece Wilson stopped by Good Morning Texas studios to introduce us to a poetry style that dates back to the Harlem Renaissance.

It's defined as a catch-all category of literary and performance in which lyrics, poetry, sketches or stories are shared with a live audience.

Spoken word poetry has been reprized by Russell Simmons Def Poetry and singer, actress and poet Jill Scott.

The art is alive and well right here in North Texas.
