1. Mat = foundation upon which all the other symbols sit
2. Candle Holder = African ancestors
3. 7 candles: 1 black - 3 red - green = represent 7 principles of Kwanzaa
4. Unity Cup = pour libation to ancestors and drunk from to demonstrate unity
5. Crops (fruits/vegetable) = harvest and reward of our collective labor
6. Ears of Corn = represent children
7. Gifts = commitments kept by children and fruits of the labor of children
