About Dickey's Barbecue
It all started in 1941, when Travis Dickey, Sr., opened up the first Dickey's Barbecue Pit at Knox Street and US-75 in Dallas, Texas. Back then, all we served was beef, ham and sausage on a piece of wax paper. If you wanted a vegetable, you could have a bag of potato chips. To drink, we offered Dr. Pepper, beer and milk. Hickory smoke filled the air, and sawdust covered the floor.
When you walked out of our original one-room restaurant, you knew you had eaten at a real barbecue joint. Travis operated the family business in this style until 1967. At this time, Travis' two sons, Travis, Jr. (known as T.D.) and Roland took over the business. The two brothers wasted no time expanding Dickey's and adding to our signature menu of delicious, smoked meats and fresh, homemade vegetable sides. The Dickey's family philosophy has always been to offer our customers a variety of menu items, while making sure that number stays lean so that we can ensure each dish is as tasty as possible. Dickey's meats have always been extremely tender and well-seasoned, served with fresh and flavorful vegetables and buttery rolls.
Through the years, Dickey's has used this approach, based on simplicity and excellence, and extended it from our dining rooms to our customers' homes, offices and events. Dickey's has catered for Presidents of the United States, sporting events like the Byron Nelson Championship golf tournament and many musical concerts. Roland Dickey, Sr., might even have a story or two about catering some head-banging rock concerts in the 1970s. Dickey's continues this tradition today with its full-service catering menu and delivery buffets for offices, schools, churches, weddings and graduation parties.
Adhering to the Dickey's family philosophy of simplicity and excellence is what's made Dickey's the fastest-growing fast-casual barbecue restaurant today. Everyone craves great barbecue!
Dickey's has come a long way - from a one-room restaurant to a multi-unit franchise system across the entire United States, Dickey's just keeps on growing. Check out www.dickeys.com for the location nearest you, and come join us for the best barbecue around.
