Neiman Marcus unveils 2013 Christmas Book

DALLAS –– For the loved one who’s always wanted to try falconry but could never find a starter set that includes furniture and a rug to go with that 20-karat gold-plated falcon perch, the 2013 Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is here for you. 

Yes, the annual Dallas-based luxury store’s catalogue of the ornate and oft outlandish has landed, giving customers the chance to spend a weekend in famed architect Philip Johnson’s glass house in Connecticut ($30,000) or own one of 10 Neiman Marcus Aston Martin Vanquish Volante sports cars (cost for that mouthful: $344,500). 

Also on offer: The $1.8 million Forevermark Diamond Experience. It includes a 25 carat diamond; an exclusive tour of DeBeers' diamond facility; and a trip into the heart of Africa to trace the diamond's origin.

"For the first time, DeBeers is literally handing over the keys to its kingdom," said Forevermark representative Adelaide Polk-Bauman.

There’s also a $1.5 million his-and-hers outdoor entertainment system –– that price does not include shipping and handling, by the way –– that includes a 201 inch LED screen and a 7.1 digital surround sound system. All of that conveniently dips underground when it isn’t in use. And it comes with the American Film Institute’s 100 Most Thrilling American Films, 100 Greatest Love Stories and 100 of your choosing.

"Imagine having your daughter's wedding. Have it pop out and go back down again," said Brian Burr, president of California Audio Technologies, one of the companies that helped manufacture the system.

Also of note: The screen can withstand 40 mph winds and rain, and the speakers were built “using the most advanced marine-grade components specifically developed for super yachts. You can't find this level of superiority anywhere on land.”

Almost 40 percent of the more than 500 items for sale in the book cost less than $250 (cheapest: $12 mug), but it's the "fantasy gifts" that get everyone's attention, such as the airplanes and camels the company has offered in the past. Eight such items are for sale this year.

"The world has become so much smaller than it used to be that the challenge of finding things that are new and interesting becomes harder and harder every year," Neiman Marcus spokeswoman Ginger Reeder said.

The annual holiday catalogue always includes a handful of ‘fantasy gifts.’ Last year, a cool $30,000 got the buyer a walk-on role to Annie: The Musical on Broadway. In 2011, the 85th edition, offered a $395,000 2012 Ferrari FF. 

And, as always, the department store donates a portion of the proceeds to The Heart of Neiman Marcus Foundation. To see this year’s book, head here
