Q: I am a geophysicist with an independent oil company here in Dallas. My comment isn't about the oil industry though, it's to praise one of your staff, Steve  McCauley. Having been in the natural science business for over 40 years, he is by far the best weather/meteorologist in the local market. He should get the Harold Taft award !!!
A: Steve is amazing, no doubt about it. We call him the teacher around here. He LOVES what he does, and I am thrilled it shows. I will pass this along to him ASAP!

Q: Shelly, what shade of lipstick do you wear?  I'd love to buy the same...it's such a pretty color.
A: I love to mix Vegas Volt from Mac with the lip-gloss called Sangria (Loreal Infallible Gloss #705). I mix so many colors, that is the only one I do A LOT.

Q: Is Steve McCauley married??  He never mentions a spouse.....He is the best meteorologist I have ever watched.
A: Nope. He doesn't have a spouse.

Q: Shelly, do you sew..?  If so, do you make any of your clothing?
A: If my  husband heard this question he would bust out laughing. His mother can sew anything. She made an amazing Baptism gown for our son from scratch. I, on the other hand, do make jewelry, but I don't sew. I wish I did, but I don't have the time to do it right now!!!

Q: Are you related to Jane Slater?
A: We get asked that a lot, but no we are not related. I don't know many Slaters, so it is ironic we work together.

Q: Shelly,  I have looked everywhere for the story about the ex-wife of the Dallas man that spent 24 years in prison for a crime he didn't do. The state paid him 1.2 million dollars and his back child support plus I think an income. His ex-wife is suing him for $800,000 for lost wages. Could you help me find the story? The trial was to start Dec. 12th.
A: There are so many of those wrongful convictions now. Is it this one? He got 1.4 million from the state. But I don’t find one with a mention about an ex-wife suing anyone. I will ask producers, too. Here is one case below.

Q: Good evening Ms.Slater, I have had a long interest in The Sump'n Else show with Ron Chapman, The Little Group, and The Novas which WFAA produced from 1965 to 1968. I was wondering if WFAA would consider to air episodes of the show or ever produce a new local music show with a recurring cast. It would be great to see Sump'n Else with The Novas on the WFAA airwaves again.
A: There are no plans to rebroadcast that show. As for a music show, that isn't in the works, either. BUT, we do like to focus on the arts, and music falls under that umbrella. If you see any great stories, send them my way!

Q: I have a portable (7 inch)up to date TV that I carry with me to work and around here in Dallas, Texas. I cannot receive WFAA Channel 8 on my TV. I use a power antenna and still cannot get on air channel 8.I can get Ft. Worth channels and other channels. Is there a reason why this happens. I really enjoy watching channel 8 at home. Thanks for reading my question.
A: From our engineers: WFAA is broadcasts in the VHF band which requires a physically longer antenna than what normally comes on a 7” portable. Most of the other stations including channels 4, 5 & 11 are now UHF channels which require a much smaller antenna which portables can pick up really well.  A lot of the portable amplified (powered) antennas are still physically too small to do well on VHF.  Being around big buildings and obstructions are also unfriendly to VHF signals where they don’t bother UHF signals as much.  I hopes that answered your question and sorry for the inconvenience.

Q: Will you rank your favorite sports of the four: football, hockey, baseball and basketball?
A: Football, basketball, baseball, hockey.

Q: Station 53 of Dallas fire rescue would like to invite you to a meal at the station one day of your choice that would happen to be on a C shift.
A: What a nice invitation, I really appreciate it. I have a 16 month old son that is all about trucks, you willing to let him come, too!?

Q: I just caught the end of a program on Channel 8 about Mountain Gorillas and the Batwha Pygmies in Uganda.  I would like to view it....Will you have it posted here or will it show again on TV in the near future?
A: Sounds like a national story that we carried during non-news programming. Because of that, I can't really  help, so sorry.

Q: I was curious to know if Jane Slater is pregnant or is if the outfit she wears.
A: No. Jane is not pregnant.
