Yikes! This week's double elimination has everyone on edge…including me!! Which two couples will be ousted after the Week 7 and Week 8 scores and votes are given the final combined tally? It's anybody's guess because they've all been given a pat on the back for their performances these past two weeks. But you know what they say… a pat on the back is just a few inches away from a kick in the pants!!!
This season has had more "wrenches" thrown into the works that any previous season. I'm wondering if the unique dances such as the "fusion" were planned far in advance or if the producers are pulling ideas out of their hats as the season progresses. Which ever may be the case I like the added twists! In addition to regular dances with a theme to honor the military personnel this week's twist was a new "Trio" dance with each couple choosing an already eliminated pro to join them.
The first round of dances from the seven remaining couples began with Shawn and Derek (by the way it's great to see Derek back after his pesky neck injury). Even though Shawn admittedly says that expressive dances are difficult for her you would never know it by her performance. If not for Len's 9.5 score they would have had a perfect 30! For their second round trio dance they were joined by Mark for a tribal themed samba that had jungle fever running rampant! It was super-creative and awesome…but not according to Len who gave then a 7! Are you kidding me? A 7????? Honestly Len MUST have something against Derek. Is it a coincidence that the 10 he awarded the couple last week was when Derek was recouping and Mark was filling in. Geez, Louise!
With a Special Forces theme to Hero Apollo looked "special" in his shirtless vested costume and his hunky arms were saying, "Welcome to the gun show!" Yowser! His dynamic zip-line entry was the perfect start to an almost perfect performance with he and Karina scoring 29.5 points. The couple invited pro Sasha to join them in their trio jive dance to Greased Lightening. Apollo could have passed for a pro since he was the perfect mirror to Sasha netting 29 points.
Kirstie may be the most improved dancer overall this season. Along with Maks this week's 27 point military tribute Viennese Waltz to "Hallelujah" was their highest scoring dance to date and had them looking just like a couple that stepped out of a scene from Pearl Harbor in sparkling green uniforms. While they avoided being bombed at Pearl Harbor that was not the case for their trio paso doble with Tristan. I'm afraid the feathers on their costume angel wings didn't take flight and instead may be their feathered "swan song"!
I'm thinking that there may have been a mix-up at the hospital when Mama Chmerkovskiy brought home either Maks or Val at birth. How two brothers can have such different temperaments I do not know! In opposition to Maks' rude hot-headed personality Val is mister patient and understanding. Kelly and Val impressed us with an elegant and lyrical Viennese Waltz scoring 28 points. For their trio dance they were joined by Louis performing the jive in which they scored and "F"… meaning it was fun, flamboyant and fabulous scoring 28.5 points! Sporting fighter pilot jumpsuits looking like they hopped right out of Top Gun were Gilles and Peta with their quickstep---and they don't call it a quickstep for nothing!!! I was thinking they might even have broken the sound barrier with their lightening speed as they soared in for 29.5 points. Their 29 point trio salsa dance with Chelsea was on the mark as well. Those two beautiful blondes combined with Gilles' tall dark and handsome appearance was really quite an "air strike!"
Emmitt's segment began with a video clip of a little advice session from former Cowboy teammate Darrell "Moose" Johnson (By the way, you can never go wrong taking advice from a great guy like Moose!). Len said that Emmett put the "ooh" in smooth with his and Cheryl's Viennese Waltz looking super-elegant scoring 28 points. Their trio salsa with Kym however proved to be quite a spicy jalapeno! Their perfect score of 30 points was a cantina show-stopper!
The last couple to perform was Melissa and Tony. These guys looked fabulous in their Navy wear and danced magnificently performing a quickstep scoring a perfect 30 as well. No matter who you are pulling for you have to give these sailors a "salute"! Their paso doble trio with Henry was equally as impressive also scoring 30 points.
