Holy Turkish towel, Batman! Team “Gangnam Style” was out to thrill us any way possible by performing their freestyle on Week Five’s Tuesday night show… and perform they did! Even though team Gangnam Style received a score of 27 points the judges all agreed that there has not been a more “entertaining” group dance to date. Judge Bruno Tonioli could hardly contain himself after viewing Gilles and Peta’s hip action-filled segment in which they were barely clad in Turkish towels. No joking, those towels were really “run through the wringer” by the time they were finished! It was all Gilles could do to keep his on and when Bruno yelled “Throw me your towel”…Gilles complied which left him even more scantily clad that he was to begin with! I really thought Bruno was going to faint from the sheer thrill of it all. Each couple in the team performed with equal fury even though they were not always, shall we say, “NSYNC”.

The four remaining couples each performed to their guilty pleasure song of choice on Tuesday of Week 5 as well. Tony and Melissa, who have been plagued with injuries for the past two weeks, snagged 27 points as they danced the tango to Britney Spears’ “Toxic”. Shawn and Derek were given a verbal “slap on the wrist” from Carrie Ann Inaba for a catch that she labeled a lift in their super emotional rhumba scene from The Titanic even though they scored 29 out of 30 points. Apollo, who was dressed down and dirty in his white pants and leopard shirt disco attire, with partner Karina scored 27 points on their samba to disco favorite “Give It To Me, Baby” but there was a “something” missing from Apolo’s spirit. Louis and Sabrina’s fairy tale wish came true when they were pleasantly surprised at Carrie Ann awarding them a 10 to their rendition of a scene from Cinderella at the ball for a total judge’s score of 29. This sums up the performances, which will not result in a couple being eliminated Week Five.

Since my blog posts on Tuesday afternoon I am including the Week Six Monday night “country flavor” scuttlebutt. Each couple was required to incorporate country flair into their performance. Instead of having DWTS All Stars…they became the “Y’all Stars”! Each “star” also performed a spotlight solo as well. Talk about an oxymoron, how does a Country Cha Cha sound? I know…weird!! At any rate the couples all pulled it off. Gilles and Peta’s 27.5 point country cha cha was their usual fabulous which almost sent Bruno into orbit. Regarding Gilles’ thunder down under country version Bruno said, “I don’t know what country that is…but I’d like to visit it!!” Somehow, I believe him!!

Sabrina and Louis’ country style rhumba was awesome and super-emotional, netting the pair a perfect score of 30. Kelly and Val who began the night at the bottom of the leaderboard had a nice come back performance with their country tango reeling in 27 points but will that be enough to avoid Tuesday’s elimination?? Melissa and Tony’s campfire-side country Viennese waltz was a near perfect 29.5 score. Shawn and Derek’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” cha cha reminded me of a scene from Footloose. If not for grouch box Len’s score of 8.5 these kids would have had a near perfect score as well. Instead they scored 28 points. Sometimes I think Len’s shorts are too tight making him “Old Crabby Pants”!

Apolo was feeling lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut last week but the country vibe Viennese waltz was just what the doctor ordered lassoing a perfect 30! The partners of Kirstie & Maks and Emmitt & Cheryl scored 27.5 and 26.5 respectively. A first ever group dance with all eight couples completed the night’s show.

It’s going to be double trouble with two teams moseying off into the elimination sunset this week but it’s time to say “So long for now partners”. Check out the DWTS website at http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/ for additional info including video clips, games, interviews and lots more . I’ll see you back here next Tuesday and “Happy trails to you until we meet again next Tuesday!”
