HOW TO GET THERE

Parking at the fair is $15.

If you live in North Texas, though, it's much easier to take the DART Green Line to Fair Park Station or the MLK, Jr. Station. If you're traveling on the Denton County A-Train, you can transfer to DART's Green Line at the Trinity Mills Station. (Warning: The A-Train doesn't operate on Sundays).

WHAT TO SEE

Live music lovers are in luck. While stages throughout the fair will be adorned with musicians at all hours, some big names are stepping up onto the Chevrolet Main Stage over the next month -- including Nelly and Kacey Musgraves.

Besides the awesome cars on display and the Budweiser Clydesdales, some new exhibits have come to the fair this year.

Rides are always a popular attraction at the State Fair of Texas. This time lapse captured the construction of "Magnum", one of the most popular rides at the fair.

BigTex.com describes The Taylor Swift Experience as a "collection of memorabilia from the superstar's archive" that takes you through Swift's "journey as a singer, songwriter and global superstar."

If you're looking for something a little more historic, Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition brings Vatican City to Texas. The reproduction of the Sistine Chapel comes to America for the very first time and is displayed in original size.

"For art lovers who might not get the chance to visit Michelangelo’s masterpiece in Italy, this innovative interpretation is certainly a way to experience the timeless piece of art without traveling internationally," the fair's website says. Additional admission is required.

WHAT TO EAT

Your first stop when you get to the fair should always be Fletcher's Corny Dogs. After that you can take your obligatory selfie with Big Tex and go on your merry way, trying all the new fried food you can manage without falling over.

Fried Jell-O and State Fair Cookie Fries won this year's Big Tex Choice Awards. Other finalists include Southern Fried Chicken & Dumplins and Deep Fried Pulled Pork. Yes, please.

The Big Tex Choice Awards winners were announced Sunday

And if those don't look appetizing to you, an additional menu was released by State Fair officials, full of amazing items deep fried to your heart's content.

What are those menu items, you ask? We put them in this fun video for you:
