DALLAS - One-hundred years is a long time to be in business, and a Dallas neighborhood hangout is celebrating that milestone. The Highland Park Old-Fashioned Soda Fountain has been open since 1912.

In celebration, the owners have planned a week of activities, including spinning a wheel for prizes. The restaurant used to be known as the Highland Park Pharmacy, and has been popular with friends and family for generations.

“It's special to us because it's a destination point,” said Sonny Williams, the current owner. “It's one of a kind. People come here to celebrate for different reasons, but they always want what they want. Chicken salad, they want the egg salad, they want the milkshake."

"There are some people who have been coming here for probably 80 years," said Glenn Clark, a long-time patron. "It's just a family feel. You walk in and most people know your name, and everyone likes to be known."

Williams said chocolate milkshakes and grilled cheese sandwiches are still the most popular items on the menu. This week, managers have asked customers to write down some of their best memories.
