DALLAS — Building character is at the center of the Rachel's Challenge program.

All over the country, the organization has worked with students to teach and promote acts of kindness in memory of Rachel Scott, a Colorado teen who was killed in the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.

Scott's parents — who developed Rahcel's Challenge — were being honored in Dallas Wednesday night as Texas Public Schools Friend of the Year.
