DENTON — Some Denton County kids have started their own army... but they're not fighting.

Students at Strickland Middle School in Denton are part of an "army of kindness."

They've collected food and supplies to send to troops overseas as part of Rachel's Challenge.

The Defenders of Freedom organization picked up the food on Tuesday, thanks to a team of students willing to load it up.

"We're students, and we don't get to do too much 'cause we're young, but we wanted to do something, and it was a good opportunity for us to be able to help," said seventh-grader Chelsea Grandee.

The goal is to show the military there are always people willing to help — the same message Rachel's Challenge tries to teach students.

News 8 and Rachel's Challenge want to end bullying in North Texas schools. This Thursday, March 31, we'll discuss the challenges at a Town Hall meeting: "Beyond Bullying: Empowering Change." The event begins at 7 p.m. at Utley Middle School in Rockwall.
