ROWLETT — A group of volunteers on a 1,700-mile mission to remind people of the sacrifices of our military personnel arrived in North Texas Sunday morning.

We've been telling you about the "Carry the Load" walk over the past week; it's a simple plan, devised by former Navy SEAL Clint Bruce, who lives in North Texas.

From West Point, New York to Dallas, walkers come and go along the route in honor of someone they loved, and thanking members of the military for their service.

The marchers arrived in Rowlett Sunday morning. Participants are hoping the group gets larger as the day goes on, and that hundreds — perhaps thousands — of others will join them.

News 8 anchor John McCaa will help kick off the Dallas leg of the event at 3:30 Sunday afternoon at Reverchon Park, 3505 Maple Avenue.

The "Carry the Load" walk ends Monday —  Memorial Day —  at about noon, with a special closing celebration to follow.
