Carry the Load is an organization that helps first responders, veterans, service members and their families.

On Saturday evening, volunteers were just hours away from completing a 2,000-mile mission — walking from New York to Dallas.

On Sunday, the marchers will arrive at Reverchon Park, where thousands of people are expected to gather to kick off the Carry the Load Memorial March.

The two-day event raises money and shares the true spirt of this holiday weekend.

Carry the Load organizer Greg Barns was in Caddo Mills on Saturday night on the final push to Dallas. He said the walkers have been getting a very warm reception since crossing the border into Texas.

"We had a huge showing from Mt. Pleasant into Mt. Vernon yesterday, and as I like to say, the 'honking brigade' along Interstate 30 has been exceptional," Barns said. "It seems like everyone knows we are here, and I think we have WFAA to thank for that... so it's been great."

You can donate to the cause and find march information at CarryTheLoad.org, or join us at Reverchon Park on Sunday afternoon.

The effort is already a success; on Saturday, the organization exceeded its $1 million fundraising goal.
