WFAA Project Green is a community education and outreach program designed to help North Texans live cleaner, smarter, richer lives and in doing so help preserve the environment.

This year has marked the 5th year of Project Green and the 2nd year for Eco-Educator Awars. The goal of the Project Green Eco-Educators Awards is to celebrate school personnel who lead, create and execute projects that educate students and improve the quality of the environment.

WFAA Project Green asked for nominations of eco-educators who demonstrated innovation and creativity by executing a “green” initiative at their school during the 2011-2012 school year.

A panel of judges evaluated all entries based on the following criteria:

  • (A) Originality and Innovation (25%);
  • (B) Educational Value (25%);
  • (C) Potential positive effect on the environment (25%)
  • (D) Evidence of the cause and effect of the defined environmental issue (25%).

Winners were selected in three categories by the panel:

(A) K-5th Grade,

(B) 6th-8th Grade,

(C) 9th-12th Grade.

One winner was selected by viewers' votes on the WFAA Project Green Facebook Page.

Each Eco-Educator winner was surprised by WFAA's Colleen Coyle at their school. All four winners received a personalized plaque and $1,000 donated to the the school from Chevrolet and WFAA to further their environmentally friendly projects.

Congratulations to the Project Green Eco-Educators of 2012!
