GARLAND ‐ Some men in uniform are belting out Christmas tunes to help North Texans in need.
"FireForce" is made up entirely of Garland firefighters. They've created their own album to raise money for cerebral palsy research.
They have been bringing holiday cheer to children and adults who might otherwise not get a chance to enjoy a holiday concert.
FireForce has been singing together for 10 years. The group has created a CD of holiday songs being sold to raise money for those with cerebral palsy.
Singing and sharing the love of the holiday season is a simple act that means a lot.
"Firefighters are heroes to everybody," said Sarah Elliott of the United Cerebral Palsy of Texas organization. "It is really neat; all the clients are excited about this."
"You should buy this CD because it is a wonderful way to just enjoy the holidays, get in the holiday spirit, also give back to a worthy cause in North Texas," said Garland Fire Department Capt. Jeff Tokar.
For him and other firefighters, singing is just an extension of what they do every day for a living.
"When people are running out of fires, we are running in," Tokar said. "It's not just the thrill; it's just like helping these people here with cerebral palsy. We are a people that have a deep compassion to help people."
Garland's FireForce offers a gift of time and the gift of song — precious to give and to receive.
