DALLAS — The City of Dallas is making a push to get more volunteers for the Visiting Nurse Association's Meals on Wheels program.

The group delivers 3,800 hot meals a day, but for many of the home-bound seniors, the visit is about more than just food.

"The fellowship that one gets from a face; a conversation; perhaps it's the weather or just a nice story," said Dallas Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano. "Some people just need to converse a little bit, because this may be the only person that some people see on a daily basis."

Medrano said the upcoming months are especially hard for these seniors, since many of them can't endure the summer heat.

If you'd like to volunteer, contact the VNA Meals on Wheels Web site for more information.
