DALLAS — North Oak Cliff homeowners fought to keep chronically homeless people from moving into their neighborhood, but it will now happen in a matter of days.

The Dallas Housing Authority says 17 people will get new apartments in the Cliff Manor tower next week.

Some neighbors opposed the idea, and the mayor's office, city officials, and a newly-formed task force wanted the housing authority to postpone the move until everyone could reach an agreement.

However, DHA said a delay would violate the federal Fair Housing Act.

The housing authority is negotiating how many more people —   if any — it will move to Cliff Manor.
