MESQUITE -- Mesquite High School orchestra students are returning home safe Wednesday after a stressful travel experience.

According to the school district, flights back from New York were canceled due to Winter Storm Stella, so the group of 48 students and nine chaperones had to stay an extra night during a school trip.

They eventually took charter buses to Philadelphia to catch six different flights Wednesday morning.

"The director has been keeping the parents updated, and everyone is holding up well," Laura Jobe with Mesquite ISD said.

WFAA was alerted to the issue by a concerned grandfather, who said his 15-year-old grandson was stranded in New York.
