Two people were killed in heavy storms that rolled through East Texas overnight Saturday and reportedly produced large hail and winds up to 70 mph, officials said.
A 40-year-old woman died at the Brushy Creek campground off Lake O' The Pines, north of Longview, according to the Marion County sheriff's department. The campground was hit with "tremendous debris" and heavy rain, the sheriff's department said in a news release on Facebook.
In Longview, a 41-year-old man died after a tree fell on his mobile home, according to Longview police. A 12-year-old child was also in the home but survived.
The woman who died at the campground was from southeast Texas. Her name has not been released by authorities. No further details were available.
CBS 19 in Tyler reported that the storm produced large hail and winds of up to 70 mph.
A severe thunderstorm warning with a potential for golf ball-sized hail and 60 mph winds was issued for parts of East Texas around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service office in Shreveport, La.
