Cowboys to sign WR Allen Hurns to two-year deal

The addition of Hurns is reportedly not intended as a replacement for Dez Bryant.

The Cowboys have made their first real free agent splash of the offseason, as they've agreed to terms on a two-year deal with wide receiver Allen Hurns.

WFAA Sports confirmed a report by ESPN's Josina Anderson and other outlets that the 5th-year wideout was signing with Dallas. The Cowboys' official Twitter account confirmed an NFL.com report that the deal would be for two years.

Hurns quoted Anderson’s tweet about his decision, adding a fist emoji – an apparent endorsement of the news.

He also quoted a Bleacher Report tweet announcing the news, adding "Bro y'all could've found a better pic."

The deal is expected to become official Saturday. Hurns was flying back to Dallas Friday afternoon.

Hurns joins the Cowboys after four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He totaled 189 catches for 2,669 yards and 21 touchdowns in that time.

The 26-year-old’s best season came in 2015, when he hauled in 64 passes for more than 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s missed 11 games in the two years since, hampered by hamstring and ankle injuries.

According to Mike Fisher with 105.3 The Fan, the addition of Hurns is not expected to come at the expense of Dez Bryant’s employment. In a radio interview early Friday afternoon, Fisher sourced team officials in saying the finances of Hurns’ deal were “comfortable” enough that the team could be saddled with both contracts.

Bryant’s status with the team has been the biggest storyline clouding the Cowboys’ offseason.

The Cowboys added wide receiver Deonte Thompson on a one-year deal Thursday.
